"Keeping Our Customers Satisfied: Interlending in a Changing World"

FIL Interlend Conference 2012

 

SWRLS will once again sponsor a place for a SWRLS member to attend this annual ILL conference. This includes full residential delegate fees (£199) and travel costs, subject to receipt of a report on the event.

 

Interlend 2012, will take place on the 25th-26th June 2012 at the University of Worcester.  Once again this will be an essential opportunity for inter-lending staff to meet, exchange news and best practice experiences with their colleagues across the public, academic and special library sectors. 

 

As well as a full programme there will also be an exclusive preview tour of the award winning and ground-breaking first fully integrated Public and University library, The Hive (Worcester Library and History Centre), which is due to open in July 2012

If you wish to bid for a place, please send a statement in under 300 words as to why this conference would be of benefit to you and your organisation to: director@swrls.org.uk by 16th May 2012. You will be notified by the 18th May if you are successful.

We are pleased to be able to tell you that the Conarls Annual Statement for 2011 is now available on the Conarls Website.  This statement aims to provide a summary of the progress made on the group's Workplan categories, together with comment on relevant issues that occurred during 2011.

Exeter Central Library and Exeter University joint exhibition of children's books from 1800-1910 from the special collections

3rd April - 31st May 2012

This exhibition and associated lectures is the outcome of a joint project following the receipt of a grant from SWRLS. (South Western Regional Library Service) www.swrls.org.uk

 

Both Central Library and the University have exciting collections of early children’s books and the exhibitions will showcase some of the highlights of each. From Margery Meanwell (aka Goody-Two Shoes) to Matt Merrythought (the boy who was always happy), the exhibitions will give you a chance to see how boys and girls were depicted in rhymes, stories and illustrations from the nineteenth- and early-twentieth centuries

British Library launches new Sound Website- Free to All shimAdd News124 to Scrapbook

Just launched, the new British Library Sounds website lets you listen to 50,000 tracks of music, spoken word and environments, dating from the 1900s to the present day. You can also browse our very popular sound maps including dialects from all over Britain and thousands of nature sounds This is a taste of the Library's vast sound collection, which includes over 3.5 million items.

Members at licensed UK universities and colleges may additionally download tracks for their research.

Launched on Friday 17th February 2012, as part of a £1.4 million project, JISC Advance is seeking proposals to enhance or repurpose existing resources to be used in the FE and Skills sector across the UK. 

The focus for the programme is to improve the learner experience and increase efficiency and effectiveness of providers in line with the policies for the sector being led by each of the UK governments.
