The Fundamental Review, begun in early 2016, is reaching its final stage. The first stage was research by LISU (the Library and Information Statistics Unit http://www.lboro.ac.uk/microsites/infosci/lisu/ ). Their report was presented to the SWRLS Board on 1 July and can be accessed at SWRLS Review Final Report formatted.pdf.
At the AGM in November 2016, the membership agreed to convert the charity to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). New Objects were agreed and a change of name to add an 's' to the word Service was also agreed. The proposed strapline and mission were not agreed and the Board reviewed these. Please see the AGM minutes for more details.
The Board met on 10 January, 2017 to discuss the next stage of the Review including agreeing a new Constitution. This was presented to and agreed by the membership at the Regional Council meeting on 5 April, 2017 at Bath Spa University. The revised strapline and mission were also presented to the meeting along with the SWRLS Offer. New subscription rates were also agreed. These will be introduced immediately for public library services and in 2018/19 for other libraries.
SWRLS has applied for Charitable Incorporated Organisation status. This will involve the setting up of a new charity and the dissolution of the current one, also agreed at the Regional Council meeting. Our application was approved on December 21, 2017 and the new charity will be operational from April 1, 2018.
