Regional and National Schemes

SWRLS members participate in a number of schemes to co-ordinate resources and facilitiate access to them, both at a regional and a national level.

Within the region, public libraries each specialise in different non-fiction subjects so that, when combined, their collections form a comprehensive body of knowledge. SWRLS also subsidises the Plymouth Music Scheme, ensuring that all public libraries in the region can offer their users a good range of scores.

On the national level, SWRLS participates in the Provincial Joint Fiction Reserve scheme, ensuring that fiction produced today can be accessed easily by future generations. We initiated Newsplan, a nationwide project to ensure that local newspapers are preserved on microfilm for generations of future researchers. We also contribute to Encore!, a national database of performance sets of vocal and orchestral music.
